Appointing Cooperators

Cooperators are proposed by a member of the Work and appointed on a specific date by the local council. The process involves the use of a Cooperator proposal form. (E40) pdf attached in this section.

On that date, Catholic cooperators can gain a plenary indulgence (under the usual conditions).

Steps to follow in appointing a Cooperator:

  1. A member of the Work consults with the local council about a friend she wants to propose as a cooperator.

  2. Once the local council agrees, the member of the Work is given the cooperator proposal form (E40) for her friend to fill out, sign, and return to her.

  • The member of the Work has a conversation with her explaining what it means to be a cooperator, how she wishes to cooperate, e.g., volunteering, making a donation (considering periodicity, amount and  non-profit entity she would like to support. Cooperator donations usually go to the local non-profit organization/center she is affiliated with, however, they can be given to any preferred non-profit.
  • If there is a particular date on which the cooperator would like to have her appointment, this should be indicated to the local council.
  1. The original signed form (either hard copy or digital depending on how the form was signed) is given to the local council by the member of the Work proposing her.

  2. The local council reviews and approves the appointment and informs the member of the Work of her friend’s cooperator appointment date.

  • It is advisable that the selected date allows enough time for the person to be informed of her appointment and to have the opportunity to gain the plenary indulgence.  The local council gives the member of the Work a card with the list of indulgences for the cooperator.
  1. The member of the Work informs the cooperator of her appointment date and explains the next steps: how Catholic cooperators can prepare for the plenary indulgence (plenary indulgence), how to give her donations to the selected non-profit entity, what cooperator circle she can join, etc.
